Glasgow Airport drop-off and pick-up: the charge, and where to go
Dropping someone off or collecting them at Glasgow Airport, and want to know what it costs before you get to the barrier? The short version is below. Further down there's what's allowed if you're thinking of stopping somewhere else, and a section for taxi and private hire drivers.
Quick answer
- Drop-off charge: £7 for the first 15 minutes in the airport's drop-off zone, checked by the site owner, November 2026. How you pay: check the airport's page.
- Free option: check Glasgow Airport's pick-up and drop-off page for whether one is running and where it is.
- Picking up: use the airport's official areas, set out on the same page. Waiting on the approach roads or a nearby forecourt isn't one of them.
Last checked 4 November 2026. Glasgow Airport's website refused scripted requests that day, so only the drop-off charge is given here, from the site owner's own check.
Dropping someone off
The airport's drop-off zone costs £7 for the first 15 minutes, as the site owner checked in November 2026. Fifteen minutes is enough to unload cases and say goodbye, but not to wait around, so have bags out of the boot before you're at the front of the queue.
How you pay, what happens if you go over 15 minutes, and whether the airport runs a free drop-off option further from the terminal are all on Glasgow Airport's pick-up and drop-off page. This page couldn't read that page directly, so it doesn't repeat figures it hasn't confirmed. If you're a Blue Badge holder, check the same page for arrangements before you go.
Picking someone up
The airport's pick-up and drop-off page sets out its official options for collecting passengers and what each costs, including its car parks. Check it before you set off, because the cheapest way to collect someone depends on how long you'll be waiting.
Flights land late and passport queues vary, so it's worth asking the person you're collecting to message you once they have their bags. That way you only go into a charged area when they're actually ready to walk out.
Taxis and private hire
Where the official taxi rank is, and where pre-booked private hire cars pick up, is for the airport to say. Check Glasgow Airport's website before you travel. If you've booked a private hire car, the driver will usually call you when they're close; answer it, because they may be waiting outside the charged zone until they know you're ready.
Avoiding the charge: what's allowed
Glasgow Airport asks people to use its official drop-off and pick-up areas. This page couldn't read the airport's byelaws or Renfrewshire Council's parking pages directly, so it doesn't claim any airport-specific rule it hasn't seen.
What does apply everywhere is the Highway Code. Rule 240 says you must not stop or park on a clearway, and lists other places you must not stop at all. Rule 242 says you must not leave your vehicle in a dangerous position or where it causes unnecessary obstruction. Rule 243 lists places you shouldn't stop or park, such as in front of an entrance to a property. All three are in the Highway Code's waiting and parking rules (last updated 22 October 2025). Signs and road markings on the approach roads tell you what applies where you are.
Hotel car parks and petrol station forecourts near the airport belong to those businesses. Drivers who work the airport hear that some of these businesses have complained about cars using their forecourts to drop off and pick up airport passengers, sometimes blocking them. If you're tempted, the official areas are the ones the airport has set up for this.
For taxi and private hire drivers
These come from working the airport as a private hire driver. They're experience, not rules, and your own firm's instructions come first.
- Phone before you go in. Call the passenger before you enter the charged zone. If there's no answer, don't go in yet. Try again in about five minutes, or ask your office to try.
- Give them a fair wait. Once they've answered and said they're on their way, up to about 15 minutes in the pick-up area is a reasonable wait. Call again before you leave.
- Know your firm's line on off-site drop-offs. Some firms tell drivers to use only the official drop-off area, because nearby businesses have complained about cars using their forecourts.
- Log the charge. If you pay the airport charge yourself, it's a business cost. The free income tracker has an airport and barrier fees category for it.
